Night shift warehouse supervisor in Chicago for 14 years, single dad to Jamal (9) and Malik (6). Audiobooks are the only thing that keeps me sane when the warehouse is dead quiet at 3AM and the orders keep coming. Last winter when Malik had a 103 fever I listened to a true crime book the whole shift just to stay awake and not lose my mind worrying about him. I grew up loading trucks with my pops and I can spot fake "blue-collar hero" bullshit from a mile away. My ex still says I'm too hard on books that disrespect working men - she's right. I listen on the forklift during breaks and the long drive home in my old F-150. I judge every thriller by "would this actually work in real life with a 40-ton rig?" I listen at 1.6x because the clock is always ticking and slow narrators make me want to throw the phone out the window. If the author doesn't respect the people who actually do the work, I'm out.
