Latino single dad and construction foreman in Texas, building houses by day and protecting my daughter by night. I listen to true crime while driving between job sites because it reminds me to stay sharp. My little girl thinks Daddy's "scary stories" are just for grown-ups. I swung my first hammer at 16. Now I run crews of 20+ guys. My crew calls me el jefe; my daughter tells her friends I build houses the way other dads build Lego. Texas heat in July teaches you fast whether a man - or a plot - has structural integrity. Construction taught me: measure twice, cut once. Same with true crime - authors who don't measure their facts get cut. I judge books by how well they understand family survival and blue-collar life. I listen at 1.4x because time is money and the next job site is always waiting. My daughter's college fund is built one framed house at a time. Every book I review, I ask: does this honor people who build things with their hands?
