So here's the setup: vampire woman finds hot therapist tied to her bed (long story involving her well-meaning vampire family trying to cure her phobia), and instead of being horrified, she's just... intrigued. Look, the premise is bonkers. I knew it was bonkers going in. That's kind of the point.
The Breathy Situation
Okay, let's talk about Victoria McGee's narration because I have feelings. Her voice is... breathy. Like, noticeably so. For the first hour, I kept adjusting my car volume thinking something was wrong with my speakers. It's not. That's just the vibe.
Here's the thing though—after about chapter three, my brain just adjusted. Kind of like how you stop noticing that weird smell in your minivan after a while. (Don't ask about the minivan smell. I don't want to talk about it.) She does a decent job keeping the characters distinct, though Lissianna and Greg sound a bit too similar at times. When they're bantering back and forth, I occasionally lost track of who was talking.
But she's consistent. The pacing never dragged for me, and considering I listened to chunks of this during the morning drop-off chaos—kids yelling, backpacks flying, someone always forgetting their water bottle—that's actually saying something.
Perfect for Multitasking Moms
This is not a book that requires your full attention. And I mean that as a compliment.
Lynsay Sands writes like she knows her readers are probably folding laundry or supervising homework or, in my case, sitting in the school pickup line pretending I don't see the other moms waving at me. The plot is straightforward. Vampire meets human. Vampire has a hilariously inconvenient blood phobia (which, for a vampire, is basically like a chef being allergic to food). Human is a therapist who might be able to help. Romance ensues.
The humor actually landed for me. There's something about the absurdity of a centuries-old vampire dealing with her overbearing mother that just... hits different when you're also dealing with an overbearing mother. (Hi Mom, if you're reading this. Love you.)
I will say—and this is important—headphones are NON-NEGOTIABLE for this one. There's explicit content, and I learned this the hard way when I forgot to pause before Emma got in the car. Had to do some very creative "oh that's just grown-up stuff" explaining. So. Learn from my mistakes.

Is this high literature? No. Is the narration going to win awards? Probably not. But did I finish the whole thing in a week, which for me is basically a miracle? Yes.
The mystery element—figuring out who's hunting Lissianna's family—gave it enough plot to keep me interested between the romance bits. And the ending? Satisfying. Predictable in the best way. I knew exactly where it was going, and I was happy to get there.
Sands has apparently written like a million books in this series, and I can see why. It's comfort food. It's the audiobook equivalent of eating cereal for dinner after the kids go to bed. Not fancy, but exactly what you needed. That same easy-listening vibe worked for me with Star Wars: New Dawn—different genre, same ability to follow along while my brain was only half-present.

If you want spicy paranormal romance that survives constant interruptions, this is your book. Skip it if breathy narration drives you crazy or you need something you can play on the car speakers with kids present.
