Black Elfstone: The Fall of Shannara
A competent but heavily setup-focused first book in Shannara's final tetralogy. Simon Vance narrates reliably if not thrillingly, and Tarsha Kaynin's corrupted-brother subplot is the standout thread among familiar fantasy archetypes.
Skaar Invasion
The Skaar Invasion brings surprising political sharpness to this middle chapter of Shannara's four-book conclusion, with Simon Vance delivering controlled, trustworthy narration across twelve hours. Solid for series faithful, but the predictable cliffhanger and middle-book structure mean newcomers should start elsewhere.
