Bartimaeus Trilogy, Book One: The Amulet of Samarkand
Simon Jones delivers a masterclass in fantasy narration, bringing the snarky djinni Bartimaeus to life with impeccable comedic timing. Despite a deliberately unlikeable young protagonist, this alternate-history London adventure is a must-listen for fantasy fans.
Bartimaeus Trilogy, Book Two: The Golem's Eye
The Golem's Eye expands the Bartimaeus world with a killer third POV, sharper politics, and genuinely creepy set pieces. Simon Jones' narration—especially his handling of the inline footnotes—makes this the definitive way to experience the series.
Bartimaeus Trilogy, Book Three: Ptolemy's Gate
Ptolemy's Gate is the rare trilogy closer that earns its emotional devastation through three books of careful buildup. Simon Jones's narration is pitch-perfect — sarcastic, tender, and restrained exactly when it needs to be.
