Look, I'm just going to say it: this is not the audiobook you put on during school pickup. Or really any time the kids are within a fifty-foot radius. I grabbed this during one of those late-night Audible browsing sessions when I was looking for something... different. And different is definitely what I got.
So here's the deal. This is a bundle of five erotic audiobooks ranging from steamy short stories to—and I'm not making this up—Goethe's "Erotica Romana." Yes, that Goethe. The German literary giant. Apparently he wrote sexy poetry? Who knew. (Definitely not something they covered in my college lit class.)
The Good, The Steamy, and The Confusing
The first couple of books in this collection? Actually pretty decent for what they are. The stories by Bridgit Embers deliver exactly what they promise—short, explicit scenarios that don't require you to remember complex plot points. Perfect for, you know, those rare moments of alone time. The variety is there: different scenarios, different dynamics, nothing too samey.
But then things get weird. Book three suddenly shifts into what's basically a sex education guide? And book four is a how-to on dirty talk? The tonal whiplash gave me actual whiplash. One minute you're in the middle of a steamy encounter, the next you're getting clinical advice about communication in the bedroom. It's like ordering a romance novel and getting a pamphlet from your gynecologist tucked inside.
And then there's Goethe. Which... I mean, points for ambition? But classical Roman elegies about eroticism are not exactly what I was expecting when I hit play on something called "Adult Erotic Audiobooks Bundle."
Matt Montanez Reads Like He's Being Timed
Okay, here's where things really fall apart. Matt Montanez has a nice voice. Good tone, clear diction. But—and this is a big but—the man does not believe in pauses. He reads like there's a prize for finishing fastest. Commas? Ignored. Periods? Suggestions at best.
For this kind of content, pacing is EVERYTHING. You need the slow build, the lingering moments, the... you know what I'm saying. Instead, it's like someone hit the fast-forward button and forgot to stop. I actually tried slowing it down to 0.9x and it still felt rushed.
There are also mispronunciations scattered throughout that pull you right out of the moment. Nothing kills the mood faster than hearing a common word butchered mid-scene. It's like having someone knock on your door when you're in the bath. Just... why.
Who Should Hit Play (And Who Should Keep Scrolling)
If you're specifically looking for explicit content and can overlook narration issues, the first two books might scratch that itch. The stories themselves are steamy enough, and at just over four hours total, it's not a huge time investment. Skip this if you need good narration to stay engaged—the rushed pacing will frustrate you more than anything else.
I finished this during nap time over two days. High praise for the length, at least. But I kept getting distracted by the pacing issues rather than, um, engaged by the content. Not ideal.
My Nap-Time Verdict
This bundle is trying to be too many things at once. Erotica short stories? Sure. Self-help sex guide? Okay. Classical German poetry? I mean... why not throw that in too, apparently. The lack of cohesion is jarring, and the narration doesn't do any of it justice.
If you're curious about this genre, there are better options out there with narrators who understand that sometimes slower is better. I had a much better experience with I Found You: A Novel, where the pacing actually worked in the story's favor. This one's a pass from me, and I'm saying that as someone who was genuinely open to giving it a fair shot.
Not something I'd recommend to my book club. (Not that we'd ever discuss this at book club. But hypothetically.)
