Will Durant (1885–1981) was an American writer, historian, and philosopher best known for his work The Story of Philosophy and the eleven-volume The Story of Civilization, co-written with his wife Ariel Durant. He aimed to popularize philosophy by making it accessible to laypeople and was a champion of human rights and social reform. Durant was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1968 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1977.
