Thomas Wentworth Higginson

Thomas Wentworth Higginson (1823-1911) was an American Unitarian minister, author, abolitionist, soldier, and social reformer. He commanded the first federally authorized black regiment during the Civil War and was a mentor to poet Emily Dickinson. He was active in abolitionism, women's rights, and other social causes throughout his life.
