Susanna Rowson

Susanna Rowson (1762–1824) was a British-American novelist, poet, playwright, religious writer, stage actress, and educator. She is best known for her novel Charlotte Temple, which was America's first bestseller and remained the most popular American novel until the mid-19th century. Rowson was also a pioneer in female education and authored various works including plays, textbooks, and poetry.
