Sir Ernest Shackleton

Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton (1874-1922) was an Anglo-Irish merchant naval officer and polar explorer known for his leadership during the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration. He led several expeditions to Antarctica, most famously the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1914-1917) documented in his book 'South: The Story of Shackleton's Last Expedition.' Despite the expedition's failure to cross the continent, Shackleton's leadership ensured the survival of his entire crew under extreme conditions.
