Richard Adams (1920-2016) was an English author best known for his novel Watership Down, which gained international acclaim for its naturalistic anthropomorphic fiction. He served in World War II, worked in the British Civil Service, and became a full-time writer after the success of Watership Down. Adams was also an advocate for animal welfare and served as president of the RSPCA.
