Meriwether Lewis

Meriwether Lewis (1774–1809) was an American explorer, soldier, and public administrator, best known for leading the Lewis and Clark Expedition to explore the Louisiana Purchase and the American West. He was appointed by President Thomas Jefferson and later served as governor of the Louisiana Territory. His life ended tragically and mysteriously at age 35.
