Matthew Lewis

Matthew Gregory Lewis (1775-1818) was an English novelist and dramatist best known for his Gothic novel The Monk, published in 1796 when he was just 20 years old. His work is noted for its vivid imagery, horror, eroticism, and supernatural elements, which sparked both acclaim and controversy. Lewis also had a career in diplomacy and politics, serving as a Member of Parliament.
