Margaret Mitchell

Margaret Munnerlyn Mitchell (1900–1949) was an American novelist and journalist best known for her only published novel, Gone with the Wind, a Civil War-era epic that won the National Book Award for Fiction in 1936 and the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1937. She was born and lived in Atlanta, Georgia, and her work remains a significant cultural phenomenon. Mitchell was also recognized posthumously with inductions into the Georgia Newspaper Hall of Fame, Georgia Women of Achievement, and Georgia Writers Hall of Fame.
