Joshua Slocum

Joshua Slocum (1844–1909) was a Nova Scotian-born, naturalised American seaman, adventurer, and writer. He was the first person to sail single-handedly around the world, documenting his journey in the internationally best-selling book 'Sailing Alone Around the World' published in 1900.
