Edward Gibbon

Edward Gibbon (1737–1794) was an English historian and scholar best known for his monumental work The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. He was a rationalist historian whose work spans from the 2nd century CE to the fall of Constantinople in 1453. Gibbon was also a Member of Parliament and a prominent figure of the Enlightenment era.
