E.B. Sledge

Eugene B. Sledge (1923–2001) was a United States Marine Corps veteran of World War II, a university professor of biology, and an author. He fought in the brutal battles of Peleliu and Okinawa and later taught biology at the University of Montevallo until retirement. His memoirs have significantly influenced war literature and historical understanding of the Pacific Theater.
