Dewitt C. Peters

DeWitt Clinton Peters (1829–1876) was a U.S. Army surgeon and author known for his authorized biography of Kit Carson, a famous American frontiersman. He met Carson in New Mexico and compiled his life story, much of it in Carson's own words, providing a detailed historical account of the American West in the mid-19th century.
