Charles Alexander Eastman

Charles Alexander Eastman (1858–1939), also known as Ohiyesa, was a Santee Sioux physician, writer, and social reformer. He was among the first Native Americans certified in Western medicine and became a prolific author and speaker on Sioux ethnohistory and American Indian affairs. Eastman was a passionate advocate for Native American rights and worked to bridge Native and white cultures.
