Arthur Golden

Arthur Sulzberger Golden, born December 6, 1956, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, is an American writer best known for his bestselling novel Memoirs of a Geisha (1997). He studied art history with a specialization in Japanese art at Harvard College and earned a master's degree in Japanese history from Columbia University. Golden lived in Japan for a time and conducted extensive research, including interviews with former geisha, to authentically portray the culture in his novel.
