Armin Scheiderbauer was born in 1924, the son of an evangelical pastor. He served as an infantry officer with the 252nd Infantry Division of the German Army on the Eastern Front during World War II. He was wounded six times, awarded the Iron Cross 1st Class, and was captured by the Soviets in 1945, returning home in 1947.
