Annie L. Burton

Annie L. Burton (born circa 1858) was an African American memoirist born into slavery on a plantation near Clayton, Alabama. Her 1909 autobiography, Memories of Childhood's Slavery Days, recounts her journey from slavery to freedom and her efforts to redefine her identity in post-slavery America. She later lived in Boston, where she worked as a laundress, cook, and small businesswoman.
