Sheldon Vanauken

Sheldon Vanauken (1914–1996) was an American author and academic best known for his autobiographical memoir 'A Severe Mercy' (1977), which recounts his and his wife Jean Palmer "Davy" Davis's friendship with C. S. Lewis, their conversion to Christianity, and coping with tragedy. He was a professor of history and English literature at Lynchburg College and later converted to Roman Catholicism.
