Richard Brinsley Sheridan (1751â1816) was an Anglo-Irish playwright, poet, and Whig politician. He owned the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in London and served as a Member of Parliament for over 30 years. Sheridan is best known for his comedies of manners, which satirized the social intrigues of wealthy society with wit and morality.
