Peggy Parish

Peggy Parish (1927–1988) was an American children's author best known for creating the beloved character Amelia Bedelia, a literal-minded housekeeper whose humorous misunderstandings of language delight young readers. She wrote nearly three dozen children's books and was inspired by her experiences as a teacher and observations of children. Parish earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of South Carolina and spent time teaching before focusing on writing.
