Notker the Stammerer was a Benedictine monk, musician, poet, and author at the Abbey of Saint Gall in the 9th century. He is credited with writing an early biography of Charlemagne, known as the Gesta Karoli Magni or De Carolo Magno, and the Liber Hymnorum, a collection of early musical sequences. Notker was an influential figure in the Western Church and served as a teacher and occasional counselor to Emperor Charles the Fat.
