Mary Austin

Mary Hunter Austin (1868-1934) was an American writer known for her nature writing and deep connection to the deserts of California. She lived in the Owens Valley and the Mojave Desert regions, where she studied the land, its flora, fauna, and Native American cultures. Austin was also a defender of Native Americans and an expert in Native American poetry.
