Louis Dembitz Brandeis (1856â1941) was an American lawyer and Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court from 1916 to 1939. He was a progressive social reformer known for his work on privacy law and banking reform, and served as a chief economic adviser to President Woodrow Wilson. Brandeis was born in Louisville, Kentucky, to Jewish immigrant parents and graduated from Harvard Law School with the highest grade average in its history.
