John Williams

John Edward Williams (1922–1994) was an American author, editor, and professor best known for his novels Butcher's Crossing, Stoner, and Augustus. His novel Augustus won the U.S. National Book Award in 1973. Williams's work gained significant posthumous recognition, especially Stoner, which has been praised for its emotional depth and narrative precision.
