Charles Warren Stoddard

Charles Warren Stoddard (1843–1909) was an American author and editor known for his travel books about Polynesian life and his compassionate writings on the leper colony of Molokai. He was also a poet and a Catholic convert who taught literature briefly at Notre Dame and the Catholic University of America. Stoddard was recognized for his vivid, emotional prose and his friendships with notable literary figures such as Robert Louis Stevenson.
