Brother Lawrence

Brother Lawrence, born Nicolas Herman around 1614 in Lorraine, France, was a 17th-century Carmelite friar known for his spiritual teachings on maintaining a constant awareness of God's presence. He spent much of his life working humbly in the monastery kitchen and is best remembered for his posthumous book, The Practice of the Presence of God, which compiles his letters and conversations.
