Ariel Durant

Ariel Durant (1898-1981), born Ida Ethel Kaufman in Russia, was an American writer and historian known for her collaboration with her husband Will Durant on the monumental eleven-volume series The Story of Civilization. She became a coauthor officially from the seventh volume onward and shared prestigious awards with Will Durant, including the Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction in 1968 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1977. Ariel's work helped popularize history and philosophy through accessible and insightful writing.
