Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn (1918–2008) was a Soviet and Russian author and dissident known for exposing political repression in the Soviet Union, especially the Gulag prison system. He was awarded the 1970 Nobel Prize in Literature for his ethical force in pursuing Russian literary traditions. Solzhenitsyn was expelled from the Soviet Union in 1974 and returned to Russia in 1994, continuing to write and critique political issues.
